Esure Takes Steps Towards Broker Launch

Monday 9th May, 2011: esure has appointed Jon Morrell as Managing Director of a new venture, esure broker, that will widen the footprint of the esure and Sheilas’ Wheels brands to service risks the company does not underwrite directly.

esure broker will create a third revenue stream for the business as it heads towards IPO alongside its core motor and home underwriting activity and its investment in Gocompare.com.

Jon Morrell will build a broker panel to capitalise on the large volume of non-core business that esure and Sheilas’ Wheels both attract due to their brand strength in the market. With the esure broker venture home-grown, it will create greater opportunity and more control over warm leads that enter esure main brands direct and through aggregators.

Stuart Vann, esure’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “The market has undergone a seismic shift in recent years with the growth of price comparison. We embraced that change and we are now ready to complete esure’s offering with a broker proposition. Brand strength is a major factor in a fickle market and we have both esure and the leading general insurance female-focused brand in Sheilas’ Wheels. This venture will enable us to bring cover to a wider range of customers than our underwriting appetite can currently service.

“Jon is key to this project and we will be looking to him to contribute to a new era for esure proving that we are much more than a simple direct player. Our underwriting caution has stood us in good stead for 10 years but opportunity is hard won and we do not intend to waste it.” Jon Morrell joined esure last week and is based in the company’s Reigate office reporting directly to Chief Operating Officer, Stuart Vann.
