Skidding cars push Monday claims up by 75 per cent at esure

esure - one of the largest providers of internet car insurance - has experienced a 75 per cent surge in claims today following the weekend's ice and snow.

The majority of claims over the weekend have come from skidding on ice with a high percentage involving damage to two or more other cars as drivers lose control on slippery hills and slide into parked cars.

Gordon Hannah, Head of Operations and Claims at esure, said: "In the UK, we're not very good at skids and slides in general. Many people who have to make essential journeys on compacted snow have found themselves losing grip and unable to control their vehicles. For many people on hilly roads, it is better to try to park safely on a nearby main road than risk ascending or descending on snow and ice."
