BA to operate extended schedule

British Airways has announced it will run an extended flight schedule throughout the second wave of industrial action by cabin crew staff.

The airline confirmed flights out of Gatwick and London City airports will run as normal during the four-day action starting on Saturday.

It also confirmed an extended schedule will operate out of Heathrow following the end of a three-day strike last weekend.

The company revealed 70% of long-haul flights will operate from the UK's biggest airport.

And 55% of short-haul journeys will go ahead, supplemented by leasing 11 aircraft with crew and pilots from six different airlines across UK and Europe.

BA said its flight programme involved 230 aircraft operating up to 650 services every day to or from 140 cities in more than 70 countries.

Customers were advised to check www.ba.com to see if their flight was still operating before departing for the airport.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said travel insurance policies will set out levels of cover but if clarification is needed, talk to the insurer.

Those with insurance in place on 12th March, when the strike dates were announced, may be covered if their flight is delayed, in accordance with the policy terms.

Some policies may pay a fixed lump sum if any delay forces the cancellation of travel plans.
