Bradford tops uninsured driver poll

Back

Statistics show that an area of Bradford has proportionately more drivers on its roads with no car insurance than anywhere else in the UK.

But figures from the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) show the West Midlands is quickly becoming the UK's uninsured black spot, with six of the 10 worst areas found in the region.

There are currently about two million uninsured vehicles on the UK's roads, and many of them can be found in large towns and cities, according to the MIB.

The new figures show that the worst area of the country for the crime is Bradford's Barkerend. Areas of Greater Manchester, Merseyside and London also showed high numbers of offenders.

The MIB is responsible for managing claims from motorists involved in accidents with uninsured drivers.

Using information provided by the MIB's motor insurance database, which contains details of over 35 million insured vehicles in the UK, the police seized over 150,000 uninsured vehicles last year.
