Attempts to curb accident-prone young late-night drivers may be doomed to fail, according to the Association of British Drivers (ABD).
The plan is to fit their cars with GPS satellite trackers and 'fine' them £45 every time the take the wheel between 11 o'clock at night and five in the morning.
But says ABD spokesman Nigel Humphreys: "People who would take it up are probably the people who wouldn't have any accidents anyway. That's the danger of these things."
Statistics show that car insurance costs have risen by 14% over the past year, with the average comprehensive premium now topping £800.
One way round that, says Young Marmalade, is a policy that enforces a curfew that will keep 17- to 25-year-olds off the roads during the hours when most of their accidents happen.
The company specialises in deals that involve a driver buying a car through them, with a financing deal that includes the insurance premium.
