Holidaymakers who booked a flight on beleaguered airline Flyglobespan using a credit card or tour operator affiliated to the Air Travel Organisers' Licensing (Atol) scheme should get refunded, administrators have said.
PricewaterhouseCoopers added that those not protected by the scheme may be covered by their travel insurance, credit card or Visa debit card following the firm's collapse.
But travellers who booked directly with Flyglobespan using a debit card may have to forfeit their payments.
On a statement on the company's website, administrators added that customers who booked with The Globespan Group plc should be able to stay in their hotel or villa until the end of their holiday while package holidays with the group were also protected.
The Atol scheme would not cover those who bought tickets through Globespan Airways Limited, operating as Flyglobespan. Customers who booked directly with Flyglobespan would have to pay for their return flight again, the administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers said.
In most cases, the Civil Aviation Authority would foot the bill and also arrange for people to be flown home. Although claims can be made through the troubled company's administrators, there is no guarantee that they will be successful.
The administrators advised Flyglobespan passengers already abroad to look out for special "repatriation" rates as they would need to make their own alternative arrangements to return to the UK.
