The Ford Focus has won the title for the most popular car of the noughties with the Bugatti Veyron appearing on most drivers' wish lists.

The Focus took the title ahead of the Ford Fiesta, the BMW 3 Series, the Ford Mondeo and the Vauxhall Astra in a poll by Auto Trader magazine.

The Bugatti, one of which is owned by Formula One world champion Jenson Button, won the "beyond your wildest dreams" title but was also named the most overpriced car of the decade.

Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson won the top motoring personality award and the Toyota Prius was named greenest vehicle of the decade.

For those looking for a good deal, Fiat Panda was voted the best value for money car, followed by Skoda Superb. The Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1, Peugeot 107 came in joint third, with the Kia Ceed in sixth and Citroen Xsara Picasso in seventh.

Auto Trader marketing director Matt Thompson said: "From the emergence of eco-friendly cars as a viable option for consumers to the replacement of maps and asking for directions with in-car satnav, the noughties have provided some interesting changes to the way consumers think about and drive their cars."
