Would-be British holidaymakers have been advised to stay at home as flights continue to be grounded by the giant cloud of volcanic ash.
Airports around the country are deserted due to the Icelandic volcanic eruption. BAA, which is responsible for running airports including Heathrow and Stansted in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Southampton, has told people not to travel to airports.
A statement read: "Passengers should not travel to any BAA airport, but should contact their airline for re-ticketing information."
Restrictions on flights at UK airports are due to remain in place until 1am on Saturday.
Only a limited number of flights can run to and from Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland but most of the nation's airports are at a standstill.
The Association of British Insurers said: "Anyone who is likely to be affected should contact the airline or airport they are travelling from for the most up-to-date travel information. Customers should check their travel insurance policy, and speak to their travel insurer if they need clarification."
A spokeswoman for Heathrow confirmed staff were coming into work as usual but said passengers were still being advised to keep away.
A spokeswoman for Aberdeen airport said it remained open but was "very quiet".
