As many as 300 people have fallen ill at a hotel in the Canary Islands and are now seeking legal advice over travel insurance.
Several people from Britain who stayed at the Barcelo Santiago hotel in Puerto de Santiago, Tenerife, are making angry comments on internet message boards and many have stated that they are talking to solicitors.
Irwin Mitchell travel lawyers have said hotel bosses and tour operators in the UK need to resolve the situation.
Annette and Tony Gensler, from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, were on a two-week holiday at the hotel and both became sick with gastric illness and were forced to return home a week early.
A spokesman for Thomson, one operator who sent holidaymakers to the hotel, said: "Thomson would like to reassure its customers that every effort has been made to prevent the spread of this illness in the Hotel Barcelo Santiago. POSI (Prevention of Spread of Infection) procedures have been implemented since February and an independent hygiene consultant confirmed that the hotel was operating to the highest standards."
