Rugby star faces drink-drive charge

Wales rugby star Andy Powell is bound to face worries about a jump in his car insurance premium if he is convicted of drink-driving.

The back row forward was dropped from the national side for the alleged offence after being arrested with a golf buggy at a motorway service station just hours after Wales' dramatic Six Nations victory over Scotland. He was suspended from the 35-man squad for breaking its code of conduct.

Cardiff Blues player Powell apologised for his conduct and his agent Mike Burton said the player "will now work towards re-establishing himself in the Welsh squad at a time when the WRU team management think fit."

Powell failed a breathalyser test after his arrest at junction 33 of the M4, near the Spa Hotel in the Vale of Glamorgan where the Wales team was staying. Another 28-year-old man arrested with him was released without charge.

Powell was bailed to appear at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on March 2.
