A new study has found that as many as two in 10 British holidaymakers fall ill while on a trip to Spain.
Research by health product Bimuno showed that Britons travelling to Spain suffer from ailments such as stomach pain. Greece and Egypt are the countries where Britons are most likely to fall ill after Spain.
A total of 25 per cent of the 3,000 people polled said that they do not bother with travel insurance, while 22 per cent confessed that they skipped taking the required jabs before flying off to a foreign country.
About 70 per cent of Britons suffer from ailments while on a holiday, with 40 per cent being affected by diarrhoea, 20 per cent complaining about food poisoning and 10 per cent suffering sunstroke.
Also, around 20 per cent said that they had an accident while on holiday, while some 27 per cent said that they had to visit a doctor.
As many as a quarter of people said that they avoided going on a holiday outside the UK through fear of falling ill due to water, food or cleanliness. A total of 75 per cent of those surveyed also admitted over-indulging in local cuisine.
More than six in 10 (64 per cent) of British travellers rely on doctors or pharmacists in a foreign country to be able to speak English, the study added.
