A police car stolen by a gang of thieves in Malaysia has been found with a hand-written apology note inside.

The thieves abandoned the Proton Perdana, which belonged to the police chief of central Selangor state, in a parking space on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.

According to police officer Arjunaidi Mohamed, the thieves left a note on the dashboard of the car saying, "Sorry police, wrong target".

The officer added that just the door lock on the car, which did not carry a police logo, was damaged. The incident highlights the importance of car insurance to protect vehicles and belongings inside.

The thieves managed to steal the car near a restaurant, where its driver had stopped to have breakfast.
