Land Rover Insurance

Early Beginnings

The four-wheel-drive classic started life as a prototype known as Centre Steer in 1947, before becoming a household name and eventually getting a Royal Warrant in 1951. Originally a product within the Rover Company range, Land Rover became its own brand in 1978 with the introduction of iconic models like the Range Rover.

First Car

The first Land Rover vehicle was modelled after the already existing Jeep, with Maurice Wilks being the chief designer for the brand. Available in only shades of light green, the car’s colour choice was inspired by military aircraft cockpit paint.

Present Day

Since becoming its own brand back in 1978, Land Rover has become the premier four-wheel-drive of choice for many car enthusiasts. Alongside the Range Rover, Land Rover’s roster also includes the Defender, Discovery and Freelander. In 2000, Land Rover was sold to the Ford Motor Company, and since 2008 it has been part of Jaguar, existing under the ‘Jaguar Land Rover’ moniker.

While it’s always tempting to choose a larger engine size and add-ons like alloy wheels and a rear-view camera, these may place your car in a higher insurance group.
