Skoda Insurance

Like many car companies, Skoda started life as a bicycle brand known as Laurin & Klement in 1895, and by 1899 they moved on to producing motorbikes, with the first 150 of these being exported to London. Laurin & Klement was later acquired by Skoda Works in 1925 until 2000 when it eventually became a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group (VW).

Skoda’s first run of cars was produced in 1905, with the first model being the Voiturette A. The early success with their first model places Skoda among the oldest automobile manufacturers in the world. Since then, Skoda has grown steadily, having produced vehicles that range from cars to trucks since its peak popularity during post-war era Europe.1

Nowadays Skoda is a household name, producing popular high-end automobiles out of its base in the Czech Republic. 2 The most popular of its current models are Skoda Citigo, Fabia, Superb, and the Yeti. Since the VW Group’s acquisition of Skoda, the brand has shifted drastically more upmarket and have, in some case, eclipsed some of VW signature vehicles, with global sales of 1.13 million cars in 2016.2

Skoda Car Insurance Groups

We insure plenty of Skoda models, so have pulled together a list of the Skoda insurance groups. Of course we can’t mention every Skoda we insure so if your car isn’t on the list, it doesn’t mean to say we won’t insure it. Get a quote today to find out how much you could save.

Skoda Fabia Insurance Groups

The Skoda Fabia has been around since 1999, the Fabia range include hatchback, estate and saloon body types, as well as a few others. The latest hatchback (15 onwards) comes in several trims from the entry level S all the way up to the sporty Monte Carlo – which comes with built-in features such as an electric sunroof and sports seats. Performance and insurance groups do vary–as expected, when you compare across hatchbacks due to differences in engine size and built-in extras.

Moving on to the Fabia Estate–this practical family car has really focused on safety, fitting six airbags across the entire Fabia Estate range. Some even include sophisticated safety technology, such as a driver fatigue warning system. Safety features like these can go in your favour when it comes to buying insurance as the car could appear in a much lower insurance group.

Please be aware this is a guide only, insurers may group these cars differently.

Model Engine Size Insurance Group
Fabia Hatchback (00 – 07) 1.2 – 2.0 2 – 13
Fabia vRS (03 – 07) 1.9 18
Fabia Estate (01 – 07) 1.2–2.0 2–16
Fabia Saloon (01 – 05) 1.4–1.9 5 - 10
Fabia Estate (08 – 14) 1.2 - 1.9 4 - 16
Fabia vRS (10 – 14) 1.4 27
Fabia Hatchback (07 – 14) 1.2 – 1.9 3 – 16
Fabia Hatchback (15 onwards) 1.0 – 1.4 2 – 13
Fabia Estate (15 onwards) 1.0 – 1.4 3 – 13

Skoda Octavia Insurance Groups

The Skoda Octavia comes in both hatchback and estate, with both styles having five seats and turbocharged engines. There are many different types of hatchback to choose from, depending on what you’re looking for. Some trims feature both petrol and diesel engines, whereas some are diesel only. Depending on the driving you do, be it long distance motorway journeys or short frequent trips, there is a hatchback to meet your needs. Diesel engines do have a bit more power, but tend to appear in higher insurance groups.

The estate much like the hatchback has a mix of petrol and diesel engines, and is spread across a broad range of insurance groups. So, it’s important to choose a trim level that’s right for you as insurance costs are going to vary.

Octavia Hatchback (04 - 12) 1.2 - 2.0 6 - 22
Octavia Scout (07 - 12) 1.8 - 2.0 16 - 20
Octavia vRS (05 - 13) 2.0 29 - 30
Octavia Estate (05 - 13) 1.2 - 2.0 7 - 12
Octavia Scout (14 onwards) 2.0 19 - 25
Octavia Hatchback (13 onwards) 1.0 - 2.0 13 - 29
Octavia vRS (13 onwards) 2.0 26 - 30
Octavia Estate (13 onwards) 1.0 - 2.0 13 - 29

Skoda Citigo Insurance Groups

The Skoda Citigo is a small city car, and with a 1.0-litre engine pot and a 59bhp or 74bhp it’s not the most powerful car around but it works well when navigating through busy city roads. There are several trims to choose from, with sportier options available. Even when choosing a sportier trim insurance groups are very modest, which is good if you’re on a budget, and want a car that isn’t going to break the bank when insuring.

Model Engine Size Insurance Group
Citigo (12 onwards) 1.0 1 - 4

Skoda Yeti Insurance Groups

The Yeti is Skoda’s small SUV and is considered a crossover vehicle, the engines range between 1.2 to 2.0-litre. As you can guess some engines pack more of a punch than others. The SE Plus trim includes a 2.0-litre diesel engine that can go from 0–60mph in 8.1 seconds– compare this with the E trim’s 1.2-litre petrol engine, which reaches 60mph in a steady climb of 11.4 seconds.

The insurance groups the Yeti falls into reach a maximum of 24, so if you do want to opt for a more powerful engine, you might not pay as much for your insurance as you think.

Yeti (09 onwards) 1.2 - 2.0 9 - 24

Skoda Superb Insurance Groups

The Superb is Skoda’s larger family vehicle and comes in hatchback and estate body types. Entry level trims for the hatchback (15 onwards) have a wide range of engines to choose from starting at 1.4-litre, sportier trims levels rarely go below 2.0-litre. All variations of this hatchback include an Antilock Braking System (ABS) and traction control. Different trim levels such as the SE Business include a Sat Nav, and cruise control as standard. Of course the more technical features a car comes with, could result it in being placed in a higher insurance group to account for more expensive and complex repairs over time.

The Superb Estate, spans across a range of insurance groups, typically starting at 13 and peaking at 34. This is due to the varying engines on offer, with some being considerably more powerful than others.

Superb (02 - 08) 1.8 - 2.8 18 - 34
Superb Hatchback (08 - 15) 1.4 - 2.0 13 - 34
